Welcome to Girlguiding North East England's website! We hope that the site will prove useful to you, whether you are hoping to find out about the region, our activities, or merely browsing. Please let us know if there is anything that you would like to see on the site; information is updated on a regular basis. On 10 September 2006 the Chief Guide, Liz Burnley, officially opened our new headquarters at Alpha Court. The building is modern, spacious and accessible to all. It truly reflects Guiding in the 21st century. Please drop in and have a look round if you are in the area. If you want to find out more about Guiding please get in touch with us - there are units throughout the region for girls of all ages, and if you would like to help us in any way by running a unit, administration, passing on skills, or anything else we should love to hear from you. Happy Surfing! Jo Taylor - Chief Commissioner, Girlguiding North East England

Montserrat New Guide Headquarters In 2005 Girlguiding North East England raised money to help the island of Montserrat rebuild the Guide headquarters that was destroyed by volcanic eruptions. We can now report that the ground was officially broken on August 22nd 2007. In attendance was The Chief Minister, Island Guide Commissioner Mrs Winspeare, The Governor’s wife Mrs Cathy Waterworth and members of the public and Montserrat Guides. A letter written by Rebecca Cook (NEE International Adviser) and Jo Taylor (Region Chief Commissioner) was read out at the ceremony by Geroldine Mason, Deputy commissioner. During December 2007, after a few false starts due to the weather work finally started on clearing the land ready to start the foundations for the new building. This work will continue in 2008 and building work will start shortly.
