Are you thinking about becoming a Trainer for Girlguiding UK?
Finding out more about it
Your commissioner and the person in your county who is responsible for training will be able to advise you. You may also find it useful to talk to any Trainers you know as they will be able to explain what the role involves. If you would like further information, contact Girlguiding North East England office for contact details of the Training Adviser for the region.
Trainer Qualification
This was launched in October 2008 and has been written specifically for Girlguiding UK. It is very flexible and prior learning and experience can be accredited. An optional workbook is available.
How to register
If you decide you want to become a Prospective Trainer, you should contact CHQ by phone (0207 834 6242) or email (becomingatrainer@girlguiding.org.uk) to request an application form. You will be asked for details of two referees (guidance will be given as to who these might be). Once the references have been received, your details will be sent to the Training Adviser for the region who will contact you and appoint a Tutor to work with you. If you find that the appointed Tutor isn’t the right one for you, you should contact the region Training Adviser who will arrange for a change of Tutor.
Support and Training as a Prospective Trainer Apart from your tutor, you can also expect support from:
• The person in your county who is responsible for training and Trainers • Your County/Division/District Commissioner • Members of your Trainers’ Support Group – you choose which one you would like to join
• Region Training Adviser, region Moderator and other members of the region Tutor Team
Once you are registered as a Prospective Trainer, you will be encouraged to attend region events for Prospective Trainers, including:
• Two opportunities every year to attend Tutors and Prospective Trainers Days • Trainers’ Day or Weekend
There are also occasional national events that you could attend.
