    Songswap

Songswap was the brainchild of Jo Buckle and Daphne Bird and started in 1979. It was formed to provide support for Guiders who led singing, whether or not they held the Campfire Leader’s Qualification, so that they could learn new songs and gain confidence. Songswap has been held twice a year ever since at different locations around the Region. It is open to all Guiders, Senior Section, Unit Helpers and Trefoil Guild members and we regularly have visitors from N.W. England, Midlands and Anglia.

The morning session is usually taken by an experienced leader and the afternoon relies on people to contribute by bringing a song to swap. But don’t worry – no-one is expected to ‘take the floor’ unless they are happy to do so. The group is self-supporting and so a small charge is made to cover hiring the room, hot drinks and administration costs. If you come along please bring any song books you have, a packed lunch and musical instruments if you play them.

The 2008 Songswaps will be held at Hesley Wood Guide House, near Sheffield on April 5th, 2008, and in Newcastle upon Tyne on October 11th 2008: to apply complete the application slip below.

SCORCH

There is also an event that takes place nationally every two years, and again organised informally and totally self-financing. It is called Scorch, short for National Scratch Orchestra.

It is a weekend open to all adult members of the organisation, and Trefoil Guild, who play an orchestral instrument at any level. We particularly encourage people who haven’t played since school, or who have taught themselves for fun as adults – the music is adapted to suit whoever comes. The main aim of the weekend is FUN and a great feeling of accomplishment.

The next weekend will be September 12th-14th 2008, near Kettering in Northamptonshire.

Anyone interested should contact Jo Addis – joanne.addis@ntlworld to have their name put on the list to receive the full information when it comes out later this spring.
